As a Social Worker and Family Therapist, and as a person who had experienced secondary infertility and the premature birth and death of a child, I was professionally and personally appalled by the painful situations I encountered. As the adoptive parent of a child from a poverty stricken country, I was moved by the conditions of so many children who needed loving families. So, by the time I returned from Honduras in August of 1983, I decided to develop an agency which would provide PROTECTIONS for adoptive parents and children in the placement process, and support and preparation during the wait and while travelling to adopt.

We also have perceived the need for adoption agencies to be CHILD ADVOCACY AGENTS, both here and in their birth countries, and have worked diligently with governments, welfare systems, and the courts.

We have a deep seated commitment to provide AID and ASSISTANCE to children and families in the countries in which we work and have sponsored and supported many overseas projects: including children's homes, day care centers, educational and training programs, micro-development projects, nutritional centers, and psychological and social work services overseas. "Our families" have joined enthusiastically in these projects.

ADOPTIONS INTERNATIONAL provides HOMESTUDY AND POSTPLACEMENT SERVICES to families in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and the greater Seattle, Washington area. Our Homestudy process is designed to be supportive and PREPARE YOU to be comfortable and capable adoptive parents. All of our Homestudies are INDIVIDUAL (we do not do "group" homestudies) and are INTERACTIVE, as we concern ourselves with YOUR questions and concerns, along with creative ways of raising a child who is adopted from another race and culture. Our POST-PLACEMENT SERVICES are as individual as the homestudy, designed to support your needs as a family. We have a large parent support group and many family activities throughout the year, as well as workshops designed to assist children and parents at different stages of development.

ADOPTIONS INTERNATIONAL will work with families from all over the United States in PRE-PLACEMENT & PLACEMENT SERVICES.. We will assist you in finding a Homestudy agency and work closely with your local Homestudy agency and you in helping you select your country of choice, and identify the child you want.

As adopting Internationally can be so confusing and overwhelming, and the wait can be so anxious, we believe the "roller coaster" effects can be minimized by giving YOU all of the information available as your adoption proceeds. We can't assure you of everything going smoothly, but we CAN assure you that we work diligently on your and your child's behalf to bring your adoption to a successful conclusion and that we go "all out" in our efforts. To this end, we have staff in each country who coordinate and represent our programs, working with the child welfare organizations and lawyers, children's homes and foster care mothers, who keep us informed and do whatever necessary on your behalf to expedite your adoption.
